![]() Virtually every component on the 2009 Vibe is new or heavily revised. It's a logical, flexible compact that should appeal to everyone from high-schoolers to empty nesters. The lineup features an array of models with a choice of engines and all-wheel drive making the Vibe attractive to a variety of drivers. The Vibe is more refined, visually cleaner and appears to have more equipment for the money than its predecessor. I'm going to see if I can get the price down a little more and get the car.The 2009 Pontiac Vibe is a new, second-generation design that shares most of its mechanical parts with the Toyota Matrix. Also, the timing chain is a real boon, another reason why this car is in the running. I've found many reviews calling out the under-powered 1.8L, but compared to my near-death 04 Subaru Forester, every other car I drive feels downright peppy to me. Also, I'm in the midwest so hills aren't an issue. I haven't looked at the 2.4L models because I'm trying to maximize fuel efficiency. good to know, but I don't think there's any way to check this before I buy it. Sellers are wise to this and are asking for I didn't know about the oil burning issue. However, I see a lot of ads where they point out the Matrix-Vibe equivalency. it just looks I'm looking at both Vibes and Matrixes (or is it Matrices?) and have noticed the Matrix is generally a little more expensive. It's one of those cars that doesn't look like it was detailed to make it look good. I only know that there was one owner until it was traded in at a rural dealership, then ownership transferred to the city dealership where i saw the car.Ĭonsidering its excellent condition, it's hard to imagine that regular maintenance and oil changes were neglected. Unfortunately, there is no service history on the car. The car has an automatic transmission (updated the original post). I'm really not, as these 'mini Azteks' have many happy owners. It may seen that I am down on these Matrix/Vibe vehicles. Lastly, I'm pretty sure that year vehicle will be on the Pass airbag recall list. On the good side there is a lot of cargo space, overall reliability is very good, you sit high up for good visibility, the engine uses a timing chain that requires no normal servicing, and general servicing is easy, with a lot of room under the hood. The driving position I find awkward, as the steering wheel is too close to the cluster w/o telescoping, and not much tilt. I find the seats very uncomfortable, too narrow, and push hard under my thighs. The ride can be choppy with little weight on board, and cross winds can push these cars around to a noticeable degree. Might be worth seeing if you can test drive one with the 2.4L engine, if possible to compare. The 2.4L engine (2AZ-FE) option is a much better engine for power, but they too suffer the same oil consumption problem, and fuel mileage is pretty bad. Very low torque trying to get almost 3k pounds of car moving maybe it is flatter where you live. I find the engine under powered, even with the 5 speed MT in my 06 Matrix. The oil control rings on the pistons can get "stuck", allowing oil to be burned in the combustion chamber. The 1.8L engine (1ZZ-FE) is reliable if oil changes were done, but has suffered excessive oil consumption if not. Is it a manual or automatic? I know you drove it, but here are my thoughts:
